Built Projects
Vineyard Haven House
Replacing a smaller family cottage, this ground-up construction was designed with a goal to maximize the connection to the bay while providing a functional, expansive floor plan built for hosting. The heart of the home is a vaulted living space where the architecture disappears, leaving only the water, the sky, and the conversation.
On the site, the best view came with the most challenging light. Facing due west, the site was prone to harsh, low-angle evening sun. To solve this, we conducted a solar study which resulted in turning the building’s axis slightly to the North. This technical pivot successfully mitigated late-afternoon glare and heat gain without sacrificing the panoramic bay views.
By the time the sun reaches the main facade, its intensity has softened into a warm glow, framed perfectly by expansive sliding doors. The massive vaulted ceilings create a sense of breath and scale that mirrors the horizon outside, ensuring that whether it’s a quiet morning or a crowded dinner party, the space feels balanced and effortless.
